Drivers Alienware M17x R3 Motherboard
Dusk Star Notebook Consultant. Physically, they are identical, but the M17x R4 has a series 7 intel chipset, and the R3 has a series 6 chipset. Ivy bridge does not function in series 6, at least on the mobile platform, so when they put your CPU in they will know something is up.

Hello everyone,
I saw in lot of places that R3 motherboard can be replaced with R4 since they have similar shape.
There are people who actually did this and said it worked (https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9476-replaced-r3-motherboard-with-r4-motherboard/)
So I decided to give it a try since my AW is i7 6820, 980m and with this I can easily change it 1080.
But when I looked online the shapes of my motherboard (which I opened to repaste) and R4's motherboard doesn;t match

Alienware M17x R3 Specs
It doesn't look same. Screw locations doesn;t seem to match. Back has more ports than my r3 motherboard. Side has less ports than my r3.
Did anyone tried this upgrading?
