E6550@2.33Ghzx2, 4GB RAM, 80gb HDD
These appear to be old corporate machines as it boots into a VISTA image for some business. Lg dvd recorder model dr 165 manual.
I am trying to throw Linux on this machine and since there are no cd bay am trying to do so from a USB.
I went into BIOS, set boot order as follow: 1. USB, 2. HDD, 3. Network boot disabled
Hp Dc7800 Usff
The 1st time it went into some command prompt type script but stated it failed, something about BTX failure but it flashed across so quick I could not verify it or confirm. However then it went into the Vista load up again but no USB boot. I googled it some and someone suggested disabling 'Data Execution Prevention' and so I did that. Verified boot order again, set to USB, and then HDD. However again, nothing happens just boots directly to the Vista Image. I set BIOS back to defaults and tried again using both USB ports in back and in front and no change. On this machine F10 takes you to BIOS and F9 takes you to a boot options screen. I tried F9 and manually selecting USB and no change.
I tried Unetbootin as well as win32diskimage to make various bootable OpenELEC, and XUbuntu images on 3 different USB sticks and no change. its like its not detecting the USB in the machine.
I don't know what else to do???
Install Windows Xp On Hp Dc 7900 Usffx
1. I can't update the BIOS as it needs to be done from Windows per HP's page, RIGHT?
2. How else can I install a O/S if can't boot from USB, and no access to a CD/DVD for this machine?
3. Anyone else have any suggestions??
please advise,
Regards,
